About Us

In 1894 fisherman Joseph Johns drowned at sea, leaving behind six children and his beloved wife Elizabeth. With no other means of income, Elizabeth converted the front room of her St Ives home into a small shop, selling groceries and other household essentials to the people of the town.

Fast forward 130 years and the business passes into the hands of Elizabeth's great, great grandchildren Tom and Sam Hanson.

After years of requests from customers, we've finally gone and done it! You can now pull up a chair and enjoy a drink in the heart of our historic store. Choose from our range of world class wines, local craft beers and expertly made cocktails.

BRANCHING OUT

In 2023, we took a big leap and opened our second Cornwall store - this time venturing to the south coast and the beautiful seaside town of Fowey!

Managed by the lovely Tyrian, our Fowey store features an intimate wine bar section where you can sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of wine from our ever changing list, or select any bottle from the shelf to have served at your table.
